The splendid cultural scene, set against the ambience created by the local residents, includes sculptors in wood, potters, craftsmen producing models inside bottles, as well as landscape artists working with colorful sand. Outdoor singers and dancers also testify to the richness of region's traditional folklore. This was the hometown of the writer José de Alencar.
