Fortaleza: like nowhere else...

Fortaleza Museum - "Museu de Fortaleza"

This is located in the Mucuripe’s Farol (Lighthouse), which was constructed by slaves in masonry, wood and iron, between 1840 and 1846. Its style is baroque, and is one of the oldest constructions of Fortaleza. It was in use for many years (called the old "Eye of the Sea"), but was deactivated in 1967. In 1981/1982 it was refurbished completely and become the "Museum of the Jangadeiro" - today, the “Museum of Farol” (Lighthouse Museum). It now contains many reproductions, drawings, photographs, documents, illustrations and stories - all related to Fortaleza. Situated in Visconde de Castro Avenue, in Mucuripe. Visits daily, from 7 am to 1 pm.
