Jericoacoara is a protected area of white sands, lakes and rocks. It is near to the Costa Oeste’s beaches (the 'Coast of the Setting Sun'). In particular, the "Pierced Rock" is well worth seeing. It is 327 km from Fortaleza.

Also on the West coast lie the high dunes of the "Tabuba Beach", 35 km from Fortaleza. These can be crossed by “buggies”.
